A new study conducted by Good Technology reveals an increase in enterprise app activations throughout organizations.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based enterprise mobility management (EMM) provider suveyed more than 5,000 of its own customers and discovered that organizations are taking steps to mitigate security risks by taking advantage of mobile enterprise apps.

According to the data, enterprise app activations saw growth rate of 57 percent in Q1 quarter over quarter, up from 54 percent and 43 percent growth from the previous two quarters, respectively.

The total number of browsing app activations across Good’s customer base jumped this quarter by 2,900 percent, making browsing apps the fifth most-activated app category.

Additional report findings include:

  • Tablets recorded twice the number of enterprise app activations versus smartphones this quarter.
  • Insurance emerged as a strong new industry category and recorded 12 percent of total device activations as well as 11 percent of iPad activations.
  • Other new categories that emerged in the top 10 for total iPad activations were high tech, and energy and utilities.

The "Q1 2014 Good Mobility Index Report" also revealed that 72 percent of devices in Q1 were activated with the iOS operating system.
